What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Don't be afraid to show your passion and enthusiasm during the application. Everyone here is passionate about what cancer research is about and advancing research to help beat cancer so if you can get that across in your application you will have ticked a big box. Secondly, it may be obvious, but just be yourself. The application is a two way process. The organisation needs to be confident that you'll get on well here and you need to be confident you will too.

Do you have any interview tips?

Because of the nature of my role I was asked if I would be satisfied doing routine tasks in my role or if I would get bored and uninspired. In finance there are a few things like month end procedures which go with the scope of the job and some tasks slightly more mundane tasks you just have to do.

In terms of advice, research the core values of the company and have 2 or 3 facts about the charity you can roll out if the opportunity presents itself. Learn the names of the CEO, head of your directorate i.e. Finance director and know the core values. Try and have as many competency based answers as possible. Questions can be worded differently and if you have at least 4 examples of competency based situations then you can phrase them differently and hone in certain areas of the example to demonstrate the competency you've been asked about.
