What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Make clear your passion for aero-engines and planes. Once the motivation is there the rest can be learned. Also the interviewers take for granted that they know everything about Rolls-Royce's product portfolio, and forget that people new to the company have no idea! Try to brush up on the basics of what engines RR make and what their current projects are.

Do you have any interview tips?

I went through the interview process twice, so the second time around I knew what to expect (unless they've changed it). In the teamwork/leadership exercise, make sure you make your opinion heard but don't be too pushy. They'll ask for a presentation about you so try to make this professional and not too corny like my first one was!
The technical interview might be tough. They ask some deduction-type questions e.g. There's this measured variation in blade length after tip grinding what could be causing this (Its a sinusoidal variation so could be caused by poor shaft balancing). The temperature in one part of the engine is measured much hotter than expected, why? (Too much fuel? No the fuel is fine they tell you. Incorrect temperature measurement? No the probe is fine...though it's in a different part of the engine and the temperature is inferred from a model. Could the model be wrong? bingo)
Lastly they asked me to explain a topic to a layman (lift, moment of inertia or some other choices) Practise and ensure you can do this well.
