Show why you want to work in local government specifically - rather than central government. Talk about past experiences with public sector or charitable work.
Do you have any interview tips?
The first couple of assessment centres are practical based and you really do need to be yourself. There are group exercises where you need to get the balance right between being heard and being too pushy! For the interview stage with the council, make sure you've researched the area thoroughly, know some facts and be really explicit as to why you specifically want to work in that city/borough. Be passionate about it.
