What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

I found it useful to read the advice on the Faststream website in great detail and then read about the work of different departments. I then asked my family to do practise sessions with me ahead of the assessment centre (the detail about the assessment centre is on the website) ie my family would choose a subject from the newspapers amd I would have to talk about possible solutions (and then do it again with different solutions). This really helped me to think about the different issues that the civil service faces and to start thinking about how I could structure my thoughts and a coherent argument.

Do you have any interview tips?

The most useful thing I found was practise - I asked my family to give me practise interviews talking about what I had done at uni. The Faststream website gives details on the competencies required- so I did notes of how I had shown each competency and then in the practise interviews I used these examples. I found this really useful also from a confidence perspective as I find interviews very stressful- so just practising the interview helped me be more relaxed about the process.
