What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Read up on the company. As I said before, so few people have heard of Amey. There are so many opportunities and roles within the company, including working abroad. Be open about what you want out of the role. If you don't ask you don't get, and if you're wanting to attain further professional qualifications you need to ensure that you will be put into several roles to achieve a wide range of experience. Having experience in the industry obviously helps but I went into the role without any placement so don't feel that lack of experience will be a detriment to your application.
Do you have any interview tips?
The interview I went to was a whole day and consisted of 3 parts: a one-to-one interview; a group exercise; and a written exercise. The one-to-one interview was about 15-30mins and it's more to get to know you, and what has inspired you to get to where you are now. At the end of the interview I was also asked to draw bending moments so read up on those! For the group exercise we were put into groups of 3 and given a project brief and had to come up with a solution. We then had to give a presentation to the group of interviewers. The written exercise was based on 1 question, for which I could not offer much advice as the question was not based on Amey in particular, and would change at each interview. I can only recommend reading up on current and future engineering projects. Most importantly, just be yourself!
