What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Come with an open mind, nearly everyone (myself included) underestimate how big and complex the railway engineering industry is. It is one of the few booming industries in the country at the moment.

Do you have any interview tips?

Do some research before the interview. If you are applying for a graduate or entry level job your interviewer will not expect you to have detailed knowledge, but a quick read of railway signalling on wikipedia (as an example from my section of the railway) or looking into what projects you might be involved in will always look good in the interviewers eyes.

Always have a set of questions you want to ask, write them down on pad and have the pad out during the interview. if and when the interviewer answers a question you have before you get to answer it make a point of crossing it out that way if you get to the end of an interview and most of your questions have already been addressed (as has happend to me before) you can still demonstrate you put some thought into what you want to get out of the interview.
