What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
You would do well to have some site experience but what really sets you apart is an awareness of commercial aspects of construction. Any examples of a time you have streamlined to become more efficient, used another method that has less resource requirements, these will show you are aware of commercial aspects. Health and safety is also of paramount importance. Do not be afraid to look at previous incidents which have caused LTIs or fatalities at BB or other contractors and how that drives you to prevent further incidents in the future.
Do you have any interview tips?
Do not lie! Be yourself. If you fail an interview based on your personality, the chances are you would hate the job anyway! Other than that, think of some interesting questions. Show interest in new developments in construction which set Balfour Beatty apart from the competition. An example would be Balfour Beatty's near monopoly on tunnel cabling works following success in developing a number of tunnel cable installation machines. Also look at what the current CEO of BB is doing to move the company forward and the results this has brought so far (huge influx of cash).
