What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

The work environment is really great. There's a lot of training, usually in the form of paired working (ie, in my case pair programming), where more experienced employees teach beginners or even workers doing a rotation from other departments. Managers are accessible and empathetic and collaboration between all the different employees is usually smooth.

Worst

As a developer, sometimes I have the feeling that some of the stories regarding new features are not sufficiently clear, and could have been described in more detail so all the parties are on the same page. Usually that lack of definition on the next tasks is solved by ad hoc meetings only with the minimum personnel needed.

What is the annual salary for this role?

Current salary: £39,000 - £41,000

What hours do you actually work, on average?

Start: 09:10

Finish: 17:25

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

I would advise any applicant to a developer position to mention all Java and Node.js related frameworks they know, and how they have used them in similar scenarios. In my case, Java (5y+ of experience) and Docker (3y+) were key to bring to their attention.

Do you have any interview tips?

Most of the interview was carried out with exercises on a whiteboard. Starting with an implementation of a simple mathematical problem (calculate Fibonacci numbers) in a programming language of my choice, and continuing with different ways to implement it (iterative vs recursive) as well as calculating its complexity and improving its performance. Later we continued with a similar problem involving tasks to be executed with dependencies between them.

I would advise checking some of the typical simple problems.
