What are the Best and Worst things about your job?

Best

Being responsible for testing on my project. As the only tester on my project, I have gained so much confidence through meetings and being able to use my initiative. This has given me insight into what it would be like in a Test Lead role, which I am aiming for in the future. Even though I am younger than everyone else on the project, I am treated with the same respect and I've never felt out of place due to my age.

I have learned so many new technical skills from the developers in my team which I can apply to my own learning and development.

The work is fun and I enjoy using problem-solving and analytical skills. The client is interesting and I have also learned a lot about the client industry.

Worst

There was a period where the work slowed due to issues on the project, but I was able to help out on other projects during this time.

As testing is relatively new for the client I am currently with, sometimes testing is not taken as seriously as it should be. But this just means being more assertive and explaining the value of testing, which is a good thing for my self-confidence.

What is the annual salary for this role?

Starting salary: £15,000 - £17,000

Current salary: £21,000 - £23,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

If you are from a non-STEM background, then explain why you want to work in Software Testing and why the role interests you. Research around Software Testing as much as possible as this will help during the assessment day, and the six week training.
