What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Lockheed Martin's reputation is as an aerospace company but applicants should know that, at the moment, the UK branch of the company does not conduct much in the way of aerospace work currently. That may change in the next decade but at the moment there is little work of this fashion at LMUK. Many aerospace engineers that applied and were accepted (including myself) were allotted systems engineering roles. And whilst I have enjoyed the work, it has not been using my area of study from university.
Do you have any interview tips?
I was asked the question "What would you try to contribute to the company if you received a graduate position here?". Something along those lines anyway. I believe when they ask this its not to actually gauge whether or not you'll improve the business with your brand-spanking new business plan and idea for a product/service, but rather to see whether you are energized enough to perform a role well. I answered with a speech on how, given the opportunity, I would attempt to help develop Lockheed Martin to be more competitive in the civil space market (especially with contenders like SpaceX). I was accepted but most likely not because they felt I could definitely improve the civil space aspect of the company, but rather that I showed the energy that I could do so.
