What are the Best and Worst things about your job?
Best
- Work/life balance and work culture. VMO2 emphasise bringing yourself to work and allow a lot of freedom in doing this
- Interesting/Challenging topics to work on, lots of work with data mixed with classical engineering principles, which makes for a nice challenge.
- Great people and supportive leaders, plenty of opportunities to work with/interact with senior leaders in "extra-curricular" type work opportunities
Worst
- Lack of mixing between different business functions. Tech/Commercial/B2B should be talking to each other more to tackle larger scale business problems. The nice thing about the grad scheme is that we break down these barriers with our social mobility between schemes
- We sit at the end of the "innovation pipeline" and our technical performance is quite often pre-defined by what our vendors give us. This can be frustrating when you aren't in a more senior decision-making position and can't change things that you know are wrong.
Generally the work is very interesting and the people are fantastic. This is a very large business so naturally things move more slowly at times.

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Keep it simple and don't over complicate things. Try and tailor your CV and relevant experience to VMO2/telecoms in general.
Do you have any interview tips?
- Research the company first; trending opportunities, who are the shareholders etc.
- Use your experience and relevant work to answer competency based questions, used the STAR method to enhance your answers and story telling
- Be yourself and talk as you would to a teacher/lecturer you are close with. Don't be overly formal with your language and don't close yourself off, it's a very open and friendly work environment here
