What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Don't have any prejudices about what it is to work at a US law firm. Weil's London office is completely independent and staffed 99% by English qualified lawyers. We do English law work with an international scope - not just US work for our New York office. The environment here is welcoming, understanding and open - trainees are given the freedom to develop but are always supported.

Do you have any interview tips?

First of all, be yourself. Don't second guess what you think the interviewer wants to hear. There is space to have your own personality at Weil, so don't be afraid to let that come across. Expect to be asked about your motivations for wanting to practice law and expect competence based questions - you should have a decent working knowledge of how law fits within the machine. Private equity is a key focus of the London office so you should have an understanding of the cycle from first fundraisings by managers, through investments and then exits.
