What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Be succinct and to the point.

Put work experience first. Make the most of your that practical experience and don't prattle on about irrelevant extra curriculars.

Firms like to know that you've done your background research. If there's something you know the firm does that interests you and that you want to experience, mention it in your covering letter / personal statement.

Do you have any interview tips?

The best advice to anyone applying for any trainee position is to be honest and be yourself. The training supervisors, partners, board and anyone else you will work with, will very quickly sniff out that you're not who you portrayed yourself to be in interview if you're not that person. They have seen more trainees come through than you've had jobs and will know whether you're right for the job or not.

Be aware of the market place and try to get a commercial viewpoint. 'Commerciality' is a key indicator of a strong trainee applicant and will be looked for during the application process.

Expect to be tested. The interviewing partner / associate won't go easy on you so don't expect them to. However, don't be alarmed if the 'interview' feels more like a chat. A lot of an interview isn't about finding out about your history, experience or how well you can fill out an application form - that's already plain to see. The interview is more about finding out about YOU. How you come across in interview is indicative of how you will come across in a client interview. If you can come across as confident and likeable in that situation, you're half way there.
