What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

The best thing to do is to try and gain as much work experience as possible. Irwin Mitchell offers short placement schemes which are a great way to experience the company and see whether it is somewhere you would like to work. The firm recruits a lot of its trainees through these schemes.

Do you have any interview tips?

The key thing is to really know why you want to work here. Don't just say the ordinary 'I want to work for a good firm', try to pinpoint exactly what makes IM different and why that would suit you and what you have to offer the firm. I looked a lot at the future of the legal industry to demonstrate my wider knowledge of the sector. Try and research the values of the firm and include these in your application/interview beside skills/activities you have done which reflect each value. Try not to be too contrived when doing this though!
