What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Consider if you definitely want to be an underwriter first or whether you want to experience the wider business. The underwriting scheme is great if you want to be technical from day one but gives less exposure to the wider business and network. The rotational scheme gives you a better exposure to business leaders but makes you a jack of all trades.
