1. What do you do on a day-to-day basis?

‘A typical day includes: customer calls and meetings, learning about the latest offerings and technologies, meetings with sales and engineers internally, admin, and some days, an onsite visit to the customers.’

‘I provide first line support to customers who are under my name. This includes our base web app and any in-house built integrations with third party systems… I work with the rest of the team to help with pre and post sale opportunities, providing technical consulting to customers who have complex requirements. I also provide integration assistance where working with a third party system may require extra configuration or customisation. I develop relationship with customers in order to assist in their growth and adoption of our product.’

‘My job is to interface between the clients and our team of technical developers/testers.’

2. What are the best and worst things about being an IT Account Manager?

‘Interaction with a variety of stakeholders. Responsibility from an early stage. Role variety – you move every 6 months or year, and subsequent exposure. Opportunity to progress.’

‘Interacting with real customers and contracts. Opportunity to work on various contracts helps to learn how to apply Problem Management principles for different accounts. Great team but not many face to face interaction with people, as most of the meetings are done virtually.’

‘Travel, exposure to great companies (customers), salary, work place. Hours can be long, especially when being managed from the US. Pressure to get things done on tight deadlines.’

5. Do you have any interview tips?

‘This is a technical based job, despite the job title, please be aware… You need to show you have a team attitude! We’re a close-knit team and we need people to collaborate with. You need to demonstrate you have the ability to grow – no one in the team has the same skill-set than when they started.’

‘Work on your presentation skills before the interview. You will be using them a lot during your time here and you’ll want to come across really strong from the get-go.’
