Application Advice:

Wolfson prefers candidates that are passionate about their field of interest. Try to show how and why you are interested in your particular field with examples of personal projects etc.

Interview Advice:

The interview is more technically biased so be prepared and research the company well.

Application Advice:

I would recommend that the candidate not only do research on the company itself but on the role they are applying for. The work of a test engineer was not taught much at my University, so I would definately recommend that if the candicate feels the same, they should research at least background information on testing ICs and the role of test engineers in general.

Interview Advice:

Stay relaxed and just be yourself. I have learned that during an interview, they are looking for someone who looks like they would be good to work with, as well as having the relevant knowledge. Don't panic if you get a technical question wrong or don't know the answer. Knowledge can be picked up, however being able to work as a team and present yourself and your work is more important.

From the interviews I have been on, the same technical question came up time and time again:

Op amps - what makes an ideal op-amp?
- draw an inverting/non-inverting op-amp, derive the equation for gain

All interviews I have been on asked some questions based around op-amps.

Application Advice:

Do state clearly the relevant projects you have worked on whether at uni or as part of apprenticeship.
Show the real will to learn and enthusiasm in Cover Letter. They do take it seriously. It is always good to give examples of challenging situations and how you overcame them successfully. Be clear what you aspire and commit to achieve and what you will bring to the company.

Interview Advice:

Prepare thouroughly for the interview. It is all technical and they do test your knowldge to the limits. If you do not know any of the things, clearly say that instead of rambling around it. Go through the job description and prepare the topics relevant to the role. Be confident whether it is telephone interview or in person. For graduate role, if you have mastered the courses relevant to the job you have applied, there will not be a problem to nail the interview. Know things conceptually that you have studied at uni.

Application Advice:

Add previous related work or experiences, not just university. Everyone does this!

Interview Advice:

A lot of techniques used in the job were not covered at university., so dont think you need to be an expert from day 1. Show you are willing to learn on the job. Good base knowledge from uni required.
