What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Skills can be taught and training can be provided on the job, so this is not as important as having the right attitude, culture and approach to how you work. You must be an effective team player, a pro-active thinker and excellent communicator.

Successful graduate scheme applicants at JLR are all people who can demonstrate ability in soft skills.

Do you have any interview tips?

Assessment centres involve an interview, role-play exercise and a team exercise.

For the interview, be prepared with knowledge of the company and its rivals. Research. Focus on examples of demonstrating soft skills. Well rehearsed, concise answers should be supporting your ability to think on your feet to some unexpected questions. Be confident and enthusiastic. Have a couple of questions ready to ask yourself.

For the role play, think of the kind of questions you will be asked and prepare. Not knowing answers will reflect badly. It's not solely a case of answering questions, you will have to make decisions/recommendations and argue your case. Be confident in them.

For the team exercise, the crucial importance is to deliver the objective on time. The tendency is to discuss for far too long and by the end there is a few ideas and no definitive answer. If the brief asks for 5 points, give 5 clear and concise points. Do not dwell for too long; making evaluated decisions and maintaining progress is key. Ask other team members for their opinions, do not shoot down all ideas you don't agree with.
