What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
Speak to as many current Civil Servants/Diplomatic Servants as possible to understand what the career entails.
Understand the Civil Service Competency Framework, and what the Civil Service/Foreign and Commonwealth Office is looking for.
There is no specific path to get to the FCO/Civil Service i.e. there isn't specific experience that you need, however, you should look to develop your skills in: communicating and working with others, drawing conclusions from lots of information, being responsible for a specific piece of work (owning it) and getting it done in the face of a number of competing deadlines and priorities.
