What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Get some experience or networking contacts! I think the short-term placement I undertook was invaluable for demonstrating that I was reliable and capable, whilst also reassuring me that it was an organisation I would be happy in. I applied during the final year of my BSc and was not invited for interview. However, after enrolling for my MSc and undertaking a short-term placement, I seemed to breeze through the following year's recruitment process.

Do you have any interview tips?

Obviously I was nervous but I'd prepared well so I was quietly confident. I was interviewed by two senior female colleagues and overall the interview was quite informal/conversational and I felt welcomed. I was able to answer the brief technical questions competently, so much of the time was spent discussing my motivation for and understanding of the role, and ideas for career ambitions. I can't remember many specific questions but I do recall that I did some internet research before the interview and the questions I found others had been asked were very similar to those I faced, so the prep helped. Overall I think I was in the interview for something like 60-90 minutes.
