What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?

Your skills don't necessarily need to be construction/technical related. Highlight what your key skills are and why they are going to be key to your development and what you can bring to the company. In my application, none of my skills were construction related - you are a trainee for a reason, they are not expecting you to know everything/anything about construction but if you are keen/willing to learn and you have the right people skills they are likely to hire you for that over anything.

Do you have any interview tips?

Make it clear how keen you are to learn. They hire you for your attitude and train you for skill. I did not have any previous experience in construction but they could see my eagerness and determination to learn which is the most important thing. You must have the right attitude and they will give you every opportunity to get the career progression you want.
