What are the Best and Worst things about your job?
Best
A huge range of experiences and opportunities both to learn and to make a real contribution. The inclusion of hands-on, practical skills/training, such as Train Guard training and time on stations, is excellent as it ensures there is not an excessive office focus.
Worst
Very little! Perhaps the realisation that innovative ideas you might come up with may be either impractical or take a very long time to implement.
Also, while moving around the country for three 8-month placements is great for experience, it can be a little difficult to organize accommodation etc.

Starting salary: £25,000 - £27,000

What advice would you give to someone applying to this role?
If you are passionate to learn and get experience in the rail industry, show it! It is always best to demonstrate your enthusiasm for FirstGroup's opportunities specifically, rather than as "just another grad scheme application".

Having examples from work experience or other past events to draw upon is very useful to verify the skills you are trying to demonstrate/describe.
