1. The Best and Worst things about working for BAM Construct UK

Best: They are great at letting me shape my own role. I want to spend more time on site rather than in the office and they make that happen.
Worst: 7.30am to 5pm shifts. I think the whole industry could achieve the same amount of work between 8 and 4!

Best: BAM are keen for you to progress in your development and training.
Worst: There is a lot of travelling involved due to where various sites are located, however this is generally expected in this industry.

Best: I feel that the best part of working for BAM is the company culture and ethos that permeates at all levels. I really feel valued as an asset. The support I receive is excellent, in that there is always a focus on continual development through satisfying the criteria of my graduate programme, attending formal training courses linked to my role and the ‘on the job’ experience that I have gained so far. The benefits BAM offer in addition to professional support, i.e. personal benefits such as social development within the company and even healthcare initiatives, really add value. It can be said that BAM really do look after their personnel. I have been fortunate enough to work on some very interesting projects in my time with BAM so far. The scale of the company and market sectors that we operate in mean that the contracts undertaken are always challenginig and innovative, therefore each project brings a new approach, with new technologies in both construction processes and materials, which ultimately offers a broad spectrum of experience.
Worst: It has to be said, that on paper the salaries offered sometimes come up short compared to some of the competing large general contractors. However money isn’t everything, and the non-monetary benefits that an employee can receive really balances this aspect out.

Show how enthusiastic you are. Being a good team member is more important than showing off; it’s all about people, managing them and supporting them.

Be relaxed in the interview, and regard it as an open discussion rather than an interrogation. By preparing adequately, you can conduct yourself confidently. The preparation should be used as a tool to cover all the bases that could potentially be questioned in the interview. If your knowledge of yourself and the company is second nature before the interview, your responses will come naturally. You will be asked where you see yourself in the future, it is crucial to demonstrate your desire to learn and develop as a candidate. Your interviewers will want to see that you are looking to be with BAM longer term.
