Salary Progression: Sector by Sector

Students looking ahead to life after graduation might be attracted to one industry over another for any number of reasons. Companies which offer competitive starting salaries in their graduate jobs and training schemes are likely to stand out. One in five graduates from the top twenty UK universities state that having a high starting salary was the most important factor in how they chose their career path and it remains a strong influence for the other four.

If financial rewards loom so large in the graduate jobs market, it is also worth considering the potential for that initial incentive to grow over time. Using data collected from TheJobCrowd’s top graduate employers, we rank eighteen major career sectors by average salary increase after two years.
