When we asked thousands of graduates ‘what attracted you most to your company?’ we expected things like the opportunity to progress and challenging work to be frequently cited- which it was.
What we were less sure about however was if there would be differences between the preferences of males and females, and we’ve definitely found a few interesting trends…
More females than males selected office culture/working environment as a factor that attracted them most to their company
Females selected office culture/working environment as a factor that attracted them most to their company 27% of the time, compared to males, who only selected it 19% of the time…
More males selected high salaries than females as a factor that attracted them most to their company
Males selected high salaries as a factor that attracted them most to their company 17% of the time, compared to females who only selected it 12% of the time…
The top and bottom three items are pretty much the same for females and males…
Career progression opportunities, enjoyable/challenging work and training provision were respectively selected the most important for males 50%, 40% and 30% of the time, and for females, 47%, 42% and 31% of the time.
Ethical company values, support provision and company management were respectively selected as the least important for males 8%, 6%, 6% and 4% of the time, and for females, 8%, 7%, 7% and 4% of the time
