Career progression is rated as the most important factor that attracts graduates to employers, with 48.5% of graduates listing it as their main reason for choosing their employer. We have trawled through this year’s results to see which sector was employees rated the best for providing great career progression and the winner is Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism.

Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism is rated the highest for career progression

That’s right! Working in a position for a hospitality, leisure or tourism employer could leave you with the better career progression prospects than grads working for law, banking & finance or management consulting firms. Given a rating of 8.28/10, the sector rises above the average score of 7.43.

Most sectors were rated between 7 and 7.8/10

83% of sectors were rated between 7 and 7.8/10 for career progression, suggesting the future is pretty bright for graduates in most sectors… in-fact, the only sectors not to receive such a rating were hospitality, leisure & tourism (8.28) and the two others.

Scientific services was rated the lowest for career progression

Scientific services received a score of 6.39/10 for career progression, putting it 14% behind the average sector score. Not the most motivating of news for grads in that sector, however – on the plus side, scientific services scores best for colleagues! Perhaps it’s a less competitive environment that leads to a friendlier work environment…
