The Association of Graduate Recruiters have announced their latest survey results! 

21,682 graduate positions were offered in 2013 – 2014 by the 201 companies responding to the survey and an increase of 11.9% is expected this year.

The public sector, construction and IT industries are all planning increases of over 20% in their graduate recruitment this year. Falls are predicted in business consulting and utilities, amongst other industries. 

However 1,422 graduate positions went unfiled last year, despite an average of 74 graduates competing for each position. IT and telecoms had the most positions left empty.

Competing for graduates is encouraging more firms to turn to school leavers in a ‘grow-your-own’ approach rather than paying a premium for those with more qualifications. 

The survey still stresses the advantages of a degree when it comes to finding a position and further explains that more than 25% of graduate roles were filled by those who previously held an internship with that employer…
