Application Advice:

The company values disappeared while I was there and carry no weight while in a role at the company (as you'd expect in a giant corporation), but they do matter a lot when you apply, and I do think Microsoft try hard to find people who demonstrate them:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/compliance/buscond/overview.aspx

Don't waste too much time (but do spend some), researching Microsoft's history and everything the company is doing. I made the mistake of becoming the UK's #1 quizzer on Microsoft (on Quiz Up) and ended up knowing more about Microsoft than most of the company. Most Microsofties don't actually know nearly as much as you'd expect about the company or products. They're just nice (and mostly smart) people!

Interview Advice:

Focus on likeability, teamwork and positivity.

Even though Ballmer is gone, evanglism is a big part of Microsoft, be sincere when you talk about what you love about the company.

If you can present in the final assessment centre, do it! Both of us who presented in my assessment center of 8 were hired (and it was the same in the others).

Application Advice:

- If you want a role, with great internal recognition which will let you get started from day 1, consider becoming a MACH.
- What you don't know, you can learn. Its expected that you wont know everything when you start, most people even 3/4 months in ar

Interview Advice:

- Know the company strategy and how some of our products align to that strategy.
- When explaining your own examples, ensure they align to the company values (of which you should be able to find online).
- Be yourself. Microsoft's hotshot tagline is..

Application Advice:

You need to be adaptable, things change quickly in Microsoft. The applications close quite early on in your final year, so apply early. Be aware that this is not a graduate scheme you are applying to, it is a role that you can be in for as long as you want (where suitable).

Interview Advice:

Practice answering technical interview questions but also practice explaining technical terms in a way easily understood by non-technical people. During the interviews, just be yourself! Try to include what might make you different from other candidates.

Application Advice:

Be yourself and honest. Microsoft will employ people from each and every background and are genuinely interested in your ability to do the job. Be comfortable with stating what you did last summer for example and why you did it. People often don't think this is relevant to a CV but it shows some personality which is valued here.

Interview Advice:

Be honest and relax! That is easier said then done but Microsoft will look to hire those who are comfortable in their surroundings and can show some personality/ability to work with others. Don't think you need to know everything about Microsoft... Even those that have worked here do not know everything as the company is so big. Come with some general understanding and an enthusiasm to learn.
