Be yourself - half of getting in is being somebody that clients and other Newtons would enjoy spending time with since we spend so much time together. Maintain a high level of professional respect - Newton needs to know you can be trusted to be professional with clients. Don't be afraid to speak your mind - people will respect what you have to say.

Interview Advice:

The interview is tailored to your performance in other parts of the process - if you didn't seem as strong in a certain area, that area will be explored more in the interview. Brush up on things you may not think went as well in other parts of the process.

Application Advice:

The online tests are hard as far as those sorts of tests go, make sure you do practise beforehand!

At the selection day, you're not competing with anyone, if all the candidates are good they will all get through to the afternoon. Work as a team when required and don't try and stand out at others expense.

Interview Advice:

Be yourself! Newton is looking for people with a specific set of values and motivations. If you're the right fit and up to the standards they require you'll get an offer.

If you try and act differently to fit what you think they're looking for you're unlikely to fool the interviewers, and if you do, won't enjoy the job if you get in.

The interviews are two way, make sure Newton is the right fit for you as well!

Numerical tests: Read the advice on the test well before starting the test. Although there is negative marking to discourage guessing, weigh the risk of leaving a lot of things blank for questions where you are fairly confident rather than certain of the answer.

Interview Advice:

They are more interested in who you are as a person than what specific experience you have. Looking for people with technical skill, but a big factor is whether you have the people / interpersonal skills to go with that.

This doesn't mean aim it at the Newton consultants present. Application Advice:

After the initial testing, the interview process has a lot of face-to-face elements. You'll also have the opportunity to meet some of your potential future colleagues. If you enjoy the assessment centre and the interviews then it's very likely that you'll enjoy the job. If you think that what you do, particularly in the role plays, isn't quite your cup of tea then perhaps this isn't the place for you.

Similarly, if you get along well with the people you meet through the process then you're going to like all of us. Those are going to be the people you'll be spending your working days and free evenings on site with.

Interview Advice:

Very cheesey but just be yourself. The interviews are to find out how you'd fit in with the company, so trying to fake something is only going to come round and bite you when you start the job.

The company is looking to recruit as many people as possible, so everyone you meet throughout the process is a potential future colleague, not competition.

Best:

The culture and the work that we do.

Having founders of the company at ease in speaking to people that have just joined is really powerful. The work that Newton does also has a real impact in improving the world we live in.

Worst:

Sometimes the work in Head Office when on the rotational scheme can feel a bit bitty - as the rotations are only 3 months long you don't get the chance to take on real responsibility sometimes and this can be slightly demotivating.

Having said that, it's only happened once or twice and when I've mentioned it there has always been a positive response.
