Application Advice:

Alfa likes well- rounded individuals and it shows in the culture in the company. Be sure to talk about what makes you interesting, and not just good at academics (although that is important too!).

Interview Advice:

Really try to understand what the company does, and what asset finance is. I would recommend getting on LinkedIn and seeing if you could get a coffee with someone who works here prior to an interview.
It not only is a great way to learn more about the company and the culture, it's great to talk about at the interview stage and shows a level of effort that many others would not have put in.

Application Advice:

Read up on the asset finance sector, and make sure you know where CHP fits in.

Try to bring your personality across in the application and avoid sounding like a robot.

Interview Advice:

CHP is a very social and friendly company, so remain relaxed and don't let nerves mask your personality.

Application Advice:

Do your research on the asset finance industry and be sure to highlight any previous experience even if the links may seem a bit tenuous (relevant University modules, jobs). Show an interest in the finance industry as well as programming, but also be mindful CHP are looking for consultants! Try to show that you're a (professional) people person in your cover letter.

Interview Advice:

Expect lots of questions on asset finance and be sure you know what the company does (the 'right first time' series on the website is great!). The interviews are predominantly technical questions which doesn't leave a lot of time to showcase what you're about - with this in mind, don't undersell yourself due to feeling restrained by time!

Application Advice:

Place the most preparation emphasis on understanding the companies typical project lifecycle and what they actually do for the client. You should definitely get basic asset finance knowledge under your belt but there is no limit on the learning you can do on project lifecycles (try the 'Right First Time' series on the website).

At interview be prepared to have each of your answers closely questioned. Therefore, answer confidently and demonstrate your thinking, so that it is apparent the answer is your own and that you fully understand everything around what you're talking about.

The interviewers are always nice, encouraging, and invested in the interview, so there's no need to worry about any uninterested interviewers or good cop - bad cop routines.

Application Advice:

Spend a decent amount of time researching the basics of asset finance if you don't have a finance background. They're looking for personable people so don't be a robot.

Application Advice:

Don't be put off by the fact that CHP Consulting work with programming languages. You don't need programming experience as CHP Consulting's internal training programs will get you up to speed with everything you'll need to know. Instead focus on what skills you can bring to the company. Evidence of good communication and team working skills is a must.

Interview Advice:

Generically, be yourself but present yourself well. Take your time to get to know what asset finance is all about, as you will be asked. You will be asked questions that there is no definitive answer to. The important thing is how you go about tackling the question. Be transparent in your thought process and take time to think about your solution.

You need to demonstrate a strong academic background with a keen interest in technology AND natural consultancy skills.

Interview Advice:

Application Advice:

CHP do not just take people with a technical background and are keen to employ graduates from a very wide range of backgrounds. They also do not require a knowledge of asset finance.
In your application demonstrate your ability to learn and to take on a challenge.

Interview Advice:

There are three rounds to the interview process. A 10-15 minute telephone interview which is a brief chat about your background and then a couple of questions about what you understand CHP to do and about asset finance in general.
The second two interviews go further and further into detail about your background, how you approach different situations and about asset finance. However you are not expected to be an asset finance expert, simply what you can uncover online is enough. It's your approach and thought process which they are trying to find out more about.
The interviews do not follow a case study structure.

Application Advice:

Do your research into what the company does! We're not a standard consultancy firm, first and foremost we are software providers.

Interview Advice:

The phone interview is very informal, a quick chat about what you are currently doing and a check that you know what the company does and what you are applying for.

The first interview is just to check in more detail you know roughly what the role entails (generally technical and software development, not so much business consultancy) and what the company does in a little more detail. Typically you might get asked what a stages a standard CHP project could entail, what could prove difficult and so on. Just do the research and be friendly.

The final interview is usually with more senior personnel from the company. They will probably drill down into your knowledge of, for example, the types of asset finance in the world. You can't know all the answers, but it is much more about the impression you give under a little pressure than the actual knowledge..."I don't know" is fine (in moderation)!

Application Advice:

Read the website. Read the website. Read the website.

Interview Advice:

Lots of stuff was asked, all of which was repeatable from the website.

The final interview is problem-solving based. Just keep cool and state facts you are sure about, and take on board the hints you are passed.

Application Advice:

Be honest. Understand the company, the people who work there, the role that our company plays and the role you'd be working in. If you can do all that before you send the application then you're already better than most!

Interview Advice:

Be honest and engaging. If you have an interest in technology and finance, and you want a role involving some software development and some client-facing consultancy, then you'll do well.

Quite a simple procedure of sending in a CV.

As with the initial application, try to express why you are suited to a role which encompasses all of these different areas and skill sets.

Application Advice:

They don't expect you to know all the technical stuff coming in as a graduate. It is more important to be able to think on your feet, and work things out logically. Know the product, know the industry, know the company.

Interview Advice:

Just be confident in your answers. You'll get some tricky questions in your final interview. You may not give the correct answer - but as long as you back it up with facts and ideas then that will make you stand out.

Best:

They are keen to fund innovation and actively encourage out-of-the box thinking.
There are international prospects in some great locations.

Worst:

It can take about a year before the international opportunities become available- its not a big issue, but is important to know if you plan to join and move to the US or Australia straight away.

Culture is excellent. Trips and events are also excellent and frequent. Also, initiatives for a wide range of things are openly supported and actively encouraged.

Worst:

There are few. The pay does not increase particularly quickly. Bonus and benefit schemes seem to have reduced since joining. As this is a very small company rapidly becoming very big, there is certainly some catch up needed in in some areas but I think this is being address when it can.
