Our 18-month graduates@swissre programme offers you exceptional training along your chosen development track. The programme combines general business learning modules and specific technical modules allowing you to develop a well-rounded curriculum including analytical, communication and leadership skills development linked to Swiss Re’s corporate principles and strategy. Additionally, you will undertake a 16–20 week job rotation and will meet and interact with people from different countries, with varying backgrounds and different professional experiences.

The application process is very standard, so if you have applied to other jobs in a similar sector, you shouldn't expect any surprises. Remember to write a cover letter, and to take your time with the HireView - if it gives you the option to do practice questions then do them until you are comfortable talking to camera

You'll probably have your prospective manager and an HR rep. They tell you who they are beforehand so you can have a look on Linkedin and see if there's anything you can take from that. They will ask questions about your CV so be prepared to link past experience into how that will make you good for the role (leadership, teamwork, work ethic, etc). Do not get afraid about your grades, I was not asked about my final grade for my diploma or for the grades report (only the diploma itself).
Having experiences abroad or at least an interest in traveling seemed to be a common point in between the selected candidates.
Before applying, train yourself for the online tests. They seem easy but the time pressure can make you fail if you did not train at least once beforehand. You can find material online.

Interview Advice:

Be true to yourself, do not try to be someone else.
Prepare for questions about your career plans and high level questions relevant to the position you apply for (if you apply for an IT position, be prepared to talk about new technologies).
Be interested in your interviewers and always prepare questions for the end of the interview.

The people in Swiss Re are usually good people and curious. It is easy to reach out to unknown people and grab a lunch with them, especially with old graduates.

The environment in Zürich is great and you feel that the company cares about your well-being.

As in many large companies, there are cost cutting initiatives which might feel unfair while some departments are still spending like crazy.

Best:

Another big positive is the culture. Colleagues are very open to sharing ideas and knowledge. Sometimes, it feels like the company has a university attached to it, people are intelligent and highly educated, and there exists ample infrastructure to facilitate research & development of new ideas.

Worst:

Like with any big company, there is some level of bureaucracy that I need to deal with.
Swiss Re, with its status as top reinsurer, is great to have on your CV. It is very highly regarded within the re/insurance industry. However, the downside is that salaries are less favourable than what you might expect at one of our smaller competitors.
