Salary Interview Tips Working Hours Best & WorstWhat are the best and worst things about your job?
Culture and work are the best things about my job! The culture is so genuinely lovely, and colleagues care about each other. This makes working here an absolute pleasure. On top of this, the work I have been getting shows how much trust the company places in its graduates. I have been getting increasing levels of responsibility in my work since my first day to the extent that I am now leading on a number of key projects. This means I am able to learn a lot faster, something which is very important to me.

The ability to do a professional Qualification - CIMA.
Exploring all the different parts of the Airport from the airfield to the inside workings - one of the busiest in the world - quite a rare opportunity.

Great people and great working environment.

Getting to work with a variety of engineering systems and working with so many different people. Everyone is really willing to share their knowledge.
Having your 'office' be the entire airport. I have a lot of freedom to move around: I can work independently in the business centre, in the terminals or in different engineering offices dotted around the airport.
I love the opportunities at Heathrow that lie outside of normal 'work'. For example: volunteering in the local community (planting trees, being a reading/maths buddy at a primary school), organising the annual Midnight Marathon event on the runway, or pretending to be passengers in exercises where emergency services practice responding to incidents and evacuations.

You are thrown in at the deep end and really challenged. You are encouraged to lead from projects to meetings and really put yourself out there. However, throughout this, you are given lots of support from your line manager, your teams, the HR team and your fellow graduates.

The exposure I get to senior leaders and Heathrow colleagues in general. How varied and diverse my days are, and how there is so much going on at Heathrow you can never be bored. There are so many shadowing and development opportunities and in general, I feel actively encouraged to self develop with lots of support.

- The colleagues across Heathrow and the diversity it brings to the workplace.
- The opportunities to learn and collaborate with other teams (Heathrow is such a big company that anything you can imagine happens here!).
- Work/Life balance.
- Challenging environment, where you can go as far as you would like.
- As a Graduate I have felt empowered during my 6 months that I have been here.
- Being a rotational scheme allows you to see very different parts of the business as well as know many people and their roles.
What are the best and worst things about your job?
Everyday is different.
The hustle and bustle of working at an Airport.
The equipment you work on is very niche, so training on equipment you wouldn't really work on outside is good.
What are the best and worst things about your job?
Great variety in the work I do (day and night shifts), very enjoyable and lovely people that I can get along with really easily.

Experience.
What are the best and worst things about your job?
The learning experience is just amazing. Within the first 6 months I've learnt how to solder, weld and wire an electrical system by hand. One of the things I've wanted to learn as well was CAD and how to use Solid Works so I can use it for my own reasons as well.

Application Advice:
Heathrow is very passenger-focused and this needs to come across in your application. Whatever the situation, the solution needs to have the passenger in the forefront, however, Heathrow is now becoming a more colleague focused business and therefore it is important that colleagues are also considered, but not at the detriment to the passenger.
Interview Advice:
Be yourself and try and relax as much as possible to show your best side. Bring across your desire to work in a service industry.

Application Advice:
Showcase your people skills: great communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with people (and recognise the importance of that), and the emotional intelligence to understand how changes affect others. No project at Heathrow is isolated to one department or discipline: hence, a lot of communication and collaboration is required.
Interview Advice:
In the interviews, scenario-based questions were asked. Things to consider for these questions are: What skills would you use? What qualities would make you a great leader here? Who you would talk to? Who would it affect? Are there any risk or safety elements to consider? Cost, budget, time?

Application Advice:
Think about why you would like to work for Heathrow and why it would be a good fit for you.
The application is largely situational so I would focus on putting yourself in the shoes of the people who work there. You are not expected to know anything about the airport or have specialist knowledge, it is your thought process that the company are interested in.
Interview Advice:
Be yourself, if you are a good fit for Heathrow this will shine through. Think about what appeals to you about the company and make sure you have done your research.

Application Advice:
Ensure that you research Heathrow's values and can feel comfortable talking about them. Most of the application process involves situational questions so how you would handle certain workplace tasks you may face.
Interview Advice:
Smile, be yourself. They are looking for people who would fit in with Heathrow and who demonstrate they would work well with the other Heathrow colleagues, so it is as much about being yourself as it is about demonstrating knowledge.
