Application Advice: Don't be tempted to exclude experience from your CV, even if it doesn't seem relevant to the job you're applying for. A job in a coffee shop might be perfect for demonstrating customer service skills, for example.

Interview Advice: At the risk of sounding clichéd... be yourself! It's important that you're seen to be a good fit for the team, as well as a good candidate for the job.

Anglian Water

Graduate Management Trainee, Developer Services at Anglian Water

Application Advice: Tailor your CV to when you’ve shown leadership/management skills because it is a management scheme. Practice psychometric tests so you can get into the swing of them as they’re timed. You can do free ones online. For telephone interviews, make sure you’ve got loads of examples of times when you’ve done things – eg. working in a team, leading a team, come up against conflict and how you dealt with it etc. I used to create mindmaps and blu tac them to my wall so I could quickly find examples in telephone interviews – good in case your mind goes blank. If I could give any advice just be yourself at telephone interview and assessment centre. Also – do your research and find out what’s going on in the business as a whole as well as the specific role you are applying for. And ask your recruiters questions at the end of the interviews to find out more about the role and business.
