Graduates in my cohort have degrees ranging from engineering, architecture, biomedical sciences, business management and materials science. Focus on what you can bring to the company in driving project delivery forward (degree knowledge & 'extra-curricular') rather than trying to conform to stereotypes within the nuclear industry.

Application Advice: Only apply for this graduate scheme if you are an engineer. The support they give engineers is much, much better than that for technical graduates. It feels like technical roles were added as an afterthought and a lot of the training / development opportunities are aimed only at engineers. The scheme as a whole offers little in the way of technical development.

Interview Advice: The interviews were very standard with no tricks. Just make sure you read up on what the company does prior to the assessment centre. Following the online application, there was an online assessment. (I think it was maths and verbal reasoning?) Then there was a simple phone interview. (with basic questions such as why do you want the job and what do you offer) Following this, I was invited to a 2 day assessment centre. This involved a written essay (on a simple topic given to you on the day), a group exercise, a presentation about the company, a technical interview and a personal interview.

Chemical Engineer, at nucleargraduates

Application Advice: You don't have to be a nuclear genius to apply but have an appropriate level of knowledge. If you did a relevant engineering topic at uni and know a fair bit you will have the same chance as a commercial graduate who has a limited knowledge providing you both clearly tried to learn. Also be aware that the sponsoring organisations pay the money. If they don't like you, then nucleargrads can't do anything for you.

Interview Advice: The assessment centres are pretty intense and will push you. Just be ready to roll with the punches. If you do bad in an excercise, pick yourself up for the next one. No one is great at all of them as they test different aspects of your technical and interpersonal skills. They probe a lot. By the end of it I felt they new more about myself than I did.
