Autodesk
Application Advice: The first step would be to understand what the company does and believes in. The ethics and culture of a company is a deciding factor in whether you would see yourself working (possibly for life) at the company. Then, as advice to how should the application process go, make sure you show your authentic self! The application process might not be short, but it is for sure designed to show you Autodesk, and for the company to understand you. Regardless of the application steps, always give your best and always be prepared to showcase your knowledge!
Interview Advice: The interview is the key factor, as you get to ask questions about Autodesk and show your interest, but it is also the time you get to show the interviewers what kind of person you are. The questions you will be asked are both related to your personality and your skills (whether programming or engineering related). Be empathetic, as the interviewers are ready to help you and make you feel comfortable!

Application Advice: While having a tech background isn't mandatory, having one certainly offers a significant advantage. The training provided is intensive and fast-paced, and without prior knowledge, individuals will more than likely find themselves at a disadvantage when completing the technical modules. You should familiarise yourself with basic computer science concepts and programming before starting.
Interview Advice: The final stage of the the recruitment process was made up of an assessment centre and final interview. The assessment centre was a group based exercise, it wasn't technical at all, more just getting to know you as a person and a look at your soft skills. As for the final interview, it consisted of scenario based questions.

Application Advice: As with any application, tailor it to Capacitas. Make sure you have some idea of what the job is and what skills you need/will need to build. Since we're a cloud consultancy at heart, you need to have an understanding of what the Cloud is, and how it is used in the business world. If you aren't sure - just do a little google research. If the research you're doing doesn't appeal to you, then applying for Capacitas might not be right for you. On the topic of skills - make sure you evidence statements where you mention having them! For example, if you're applying for a service delivery role (consultant/analyst), then you need to be a good problem solver individually, but also in a team, so make sure that comes across in your application - don't just talk about individual projects, talk about team working! Even working as part of a team in a part-time job is extremely valuable. The second important thing is to review your technical skills, and consider whether you can upskill for the role. For example, as with most office jobs, we use a lot of Excel at Capacitas. Being better than the average person who applies with set you apart!
Interview Advice: Be yourself, be confident but not cocky, and don't give up even with tough questions. The interviewers are nice people, and they want you to succeed - they wouldn't be interviewing you if they didn't! Build a rapport with them and make sure you're actively listening to what they are telling you. If you don't understand something; clarify, so that you can make sure the answer you give is appropriate for the question you're being asked.

Application Advice: My experience of the application process was via a cv sent to graduate recruitment by a friend who already worked for the company. My cv was a skills-based cv with some explicit details about past employment. There was a following phone interview (mostly just a chat with graduate recruitment) then an online technical exam (timed coding exercise). I wasn't familiar with the languages offered in the coding exercise, but really it's principles being assessed. Don't feel disheartened if your code fails to "pass" an online assessment.
Interview Advice: I did an assessment day which included technical exam, group task, interview and pair programming exercise. - In the group task, read all the info and don't try to present something the 'customer' didn't ask for. Be confident in your presenting at the end and be prepared to answer questions about your decision making. - The technical exam was in your language of choice (from a specified list), and I wasn't particularly familiar with the language at all. In this case it was really important to try and answer as many questions as possible. - The interview included going through some of the errors/misunderstandings of the technical exam, which was great because it offered a chance to ask questions and also to prove the ability to learn quickly. I was also asked some general questions relating to info on my cv. Others were asked to explain solutions to problems on a whiteboard, but I dodged that by talking about the exam for quite a while. (Maybe less likely if you were already proficient in the language of the exam) - The pair programming was an exercise about building a specific tax calculator. Again the language wasn't one I was proficient in, but the supporting dev was very relaxed about it and encouraged Google as a problem solving aid Very importantly, I was never made to feel lacking by any of the interviewers/assessors because of my lack of programming skill.

This shows that you've done your research and really want to work for them and goes a long way. Also, for the video interview, try and be yourself and show your personality because unlike lots of other companies, actual people watch each of the video interviews and showing your personality will go a long way even if some of your answers aren't the best.
Interview Advice: Just be yourself. I know that sounds like cliché advice, but Ten10 really value the soft skills a person has and their ability to interact with others, as you'll be going into a consulting role joining teams of people you don't know. Let your personality shine through, don't be scared to ask questions. There were 2 interviews, 1 was more of a personality interview with other applicants. It was just a case of ice breakers to see how you interacted with other people, just try to be friendly and chatty. The second was a more technical interview, asking about some skills and things from your CV, as well as what interests you about technology, something you really learned about technology, why you want to work for Ten10, etc. There was also a situational question about if you were on a project and didn't have enough time to finish it, what could you do? So things like, offer to work overtime, ask people on the team to share the workload, request pushing back the deadline or suggesting a sequential release of smaller parts of the project, try to automate tedious manual steps to save time, etc.

Application Advice: Find a referral. Reach out to someone from the DU on LinkedIn or find another graduate/someone who'd be willing to be your referral. Goes a long way to pushing your application to the top of the queue and making it visible. There are plenty of recruiting incentives within the company, so people will jump at the chance to referr a bright graduate. Application consists of multiple stages and can feel quite rigorous. Be thorough with your paper applications when applying online. Try to have a referral if possible, but not necessary. Situational Questionnaire is hard to prepare for and was mostly a common sense thing. Some specific questions required some degree of math (might want to remind yourself what the formula is to calculate compound interests and figure out original price values after tax if you've forgotten). You might then have an interview or an "online interview" and assessment centre activity. Online interview is not with a real person; its a set of pre-recorded questions with which you have 2 minutes to answer. Very rigid and not too natural, but the website has a "practice interview". Try to pocket answers for common questions and make them fit within a 2 minute time limit. Assessment Centre will be group activities. Some groups will do better than others - and your group might not be the best - but that's fine. They're looking for both individual performance and cooperative skills. Have good chemistry with your team and highlight your personal qualities. The full interview may happen if there are no Assessment Centre sessions running at the time or in your vicinity. Look at Interview Advice detailed for help with this.
Interview Advice: Although I applied for a specialised role (CRM), I had made it clear from the beginning of the application process that I was not familiar with the platform. They were fine with this. Questions revolved mostly around soft skills and process knowledge: How comfortable are you with presenting? If a team member is failing to meet expectations, how do you handle them? Are you familiar with Agile Methodology? Do you have past experience that you believe is relevant for this position? Why apply for this position in particular? General consultant-skills related questions. Even if you're not familiar with tech/IT (which I was not, coming from a humanities), showing an understanding of consulting skills and making sure to bring on how your past projects/experiences support the skillset they're looking for should be enough. Also, be creative. The best way to show you're comfortable with presenting is getting up and giving an actual presentation then and there. If they ask about Agile then explain the ways you use sprints and kanban boards in your own self-improvement.

And show that you are eager to grow and learn. Application Advice: I would advise any applicant to a developer position to mention all Java and Node.js related frameworks they know, and how they have used them in similar scenarios. In my case, Java (5y+ of experience) and Docker (3y+) were key to bring to their attention.
Interview Advice: Most of the interview was carried out with exercises on a whiteboard. Starting with an implementation of a simple mathematical problem (calculate Fibonacci numbers) in a programming language of my choice, and continuing with different ways to implement it (iterative vs recursive) as well as calculating its complexity and improving its performance. Later we continued with a similar problem involving tasks to be executed with dependencies between them. I would advise checking some of the typical simple problems.

Interview Advice: The first stage of the application process is the video interview where general questions will be asked (e.g Tell me a fun fact about yourself). For this stage, all you need to do is to be relaxed and enjoy the process. You will be mostly answering questions about yourself and general questions like "What is software testing?". The next stage is the telephone interview, which is a conversation with our Head of Graduate Recruitment where you find out more details about The Academy and you get to ask questions. The interview is very well structured and the company has the chance to know more about you and you get the chance to know more about them. The third step is the assessment day where you get to meet people from the company and speak with directors and previous academy members. Even if there is a long day, it is also a fun day. People are making you feel as you are already part of the company. The day is split into two parts. In the first part, you will have three tests (very easy test, nothing very technical) and in the second part you have your interview. Throughout the day, the recruitment team is entertaining you with Lego and different fun activities that will help you get to know others. You have to just enjoy yourself and relax!

Application Advice: Be honest about your previous experience. When it comes to software development, soft skills are very important, so do not be afraid to highlight this aspects of your past work history. We all start somewhere, and personally my coding experience was not very vast before starting the apprenticeship. Make sure to show that you are passionate about programming and give good reasons as to why you feel your past experiences may benefit the company. Also make sure to mention what kind of things interest you in the tech industry. It's important to show you have interest in the role your applying for!
Interview Advice: The interview was much less formal than interviews I have had in previous roles. (I used to work in Social Work). The interviews were quite relaxed and this helped me feel more comfortable answering questions. My advice would be, to make sure you talk about why you're interested in programming, highlight areas you are interested in. Make sure to mention any experience of soft skills you have, and also accept that you may not all the lingo associated with programming.
