Application Advice: Be yourself, tailor your interview to BT and gain prior experience whilst at University by working within the industry (whether that be a retail store or a telecom's call centre).

Computacenter

Sales Associate, Sales at Computacenter

Application Advice: The application process is long and, at times, quite challenging. My advice is to keep at it and be confident in your abilities and make sure that you are learning about the company and the opportunity that you are applying for along the way.

Interview Advice: Be yourself. Company and programme knowledge is important but a huge element in the interview process is whether or not you will be the right fit for the company. If you are not yourself it will become increasingly easier to spot as the application and interview processes go on. Learn about the company but don't sound scripted. The interviewers want to see that you have taken an interest in the company and not that you know how to read their website.

TPP

Product Specialist, Product Specialists at TPP

Application Advice: Skip the jargon, fluff and buzz words. If you've got relevant experience and skills be sure to highlight them with solid examples. Make the most of Career events/Open days etc. if possible to find out more about the role and team before applying. For this role in particular, I think key attributes would be having self-motivation to achieve and maintain high standards, ability to absorb knowledge, very strong communication skills and flexibility toward work/life balance.

Interview Advice: The interview might not go as you'd expect, just make sure you have prepared for it. Of course the interviewers want to make sure you have the right skills and attributes for the role, but it is also their only chance to see if you'd be a good fit in their team - so let them see your personality as well as your qualifications.

Those of us who actually enjoyed the challenge of combating these questions were the ones who got the job.

Sky

Technology Graduate, Central Services at Sky

Application Advice: Make sure and do your research surrounding Sky's products and company culture. Being able to give a solid answer as to why you would like to specifically work for Sky is very important. Don't be disheartened by a lack of technical experience on your CV - the technology graduate scheme is as much aimed at future leaders as future engineers, and a strong array of soft skills from any background is equally valuable.

Interview Advice: At the interview/AC stage, the most important thing is to show that you are a fit with the company culture. As previously mentioned, your specific previous technical experience or qualifications take a backseat compared to this. You need to strike the balance between being confident and enthusiastic, but also a solid team player, who those interviewing you would genuinely want to work with on a day to day basis. So speak up but don't overpower the whole discussion all the time. And take extra care not to come across as arrogant or aloof, especially if you feel you have the qualifications and experience to justify being so.

Application Advice: Be yourself and honest. Microsoft will employ people from each and every background and are genuinely interested in your ability to do the job. Be comfortable with stating what you did last summer for example and why you did it. People often don't think this is relevant to a CV but it shows some personality which is valued here.

Interview Advice: Be honest and relax! That is easier said then done but Microsoft will look to hire those who are comfortable in their surroundings and can show some personality/ability to work with others. Don't think you need to know everything about Microsoft... Even those that have worked here do not know everything as the company is so big. Come with some general understanding and an enthusiasm to learn.

Thomson Reuters

Account Manager, Finance at Thomson Reuters

Application Advice: Do your research about the company, products and customers. Be creative in your preparation; go to Linkedin, email people, look at competitors in the field.

Interview Advice: Focus on the sector you want - the company has so many services to offer and different parts of the business, so if you are going for a role in Financial & Risk, don't talk too much about your interest in our Scholarly Research business. Make sure that the interviewer thinks this is your number one choice - don't be too blase about where you want to be in 5 years (i.e. using the company to pursue a career elsewhere). If you're going for a sales role then sell yourself accordingly.

FDM Group

Global Billing Assistant, Finance at FDM Group

Application Advice: Go on the FDM website and research exactly what we do, try to get a basic understanding of the FDM model. Also, doing a bit of your own research using search engines such as Google is another good way to prepare as it shows you've thought outside the box more than the average candidate would.

Interview Advice: I was asked what I knew about FDM, my responsibilities in the role I was in at the time, what I thought my greatest strengths and weaknesses are, where I saw myself in 5 years time, why I wanted to work for FDM & what interested me in the role I was being interviewed for. I was also asked what process improvement strategies I had implemented in the role I was in. At the end of the interview I was asked how I prepared for it (this goes back to looking at the FDM website and own research on Google as previously mentioned).
