Application Advice: You hear it all the time, but it really is so important to be yourself. As much as it's important to show Sky what you know about us and our products and initiatives, you want to come away from your interview making them feel that they'd love to have you in their team.

Interview Advice: E.g tips, questions you were asked etc. Do your research about other things we do aside from our products. We run a number of iniitatives which really show what we care about as a company. In your answers really try to embody our values. Having worked here for over a year now, we really do always come back to these. So try and incorporate these into your responses as much as you can.

Fujitsu

Graduate HR Advisor, HR Systems at Fujitsu

Application Advice: Thoroughly research the company, especially the Fujitsu leadership competencies. Each stage of the application is based around them, from the online form to the assessment centre. Fujitsu are looking for graduates with potential- do not spend time worrying that you should be the complete package immediately and show off tons of commercial business knowledge. I had no experience of a business based role whatsoever and this did not put me at a disadvantage at all. All stages of the process are competency based.

Interview Advice: The questions are evidence/scenario based. For each leadership competency, I would suggest you have a detailed example of a time you PERSONALLY have shown this competency. If you are talking about a team based example, ensure you really make it clear what YOU did to help. Show that you are self aware. You will be asked what you feel you need to work on and develop. If there is something you know you need to improve, do not be afraid to say it.

GlaxoSmithKline

HR Associate, HR Strategy Deployment and Effectiveness at GlaxoSmithKline

Application Advice: Apply if you want a graduate scheme that lives up the name 'Future Leaders' in giving you valuable experience with impactful and interesting projects from early in your career. You get to work across all areas of HR and have a big say in which of these areas you work in, so if you have a passion for a particular area of HR, don't be afraid to say so! As well as conveying your passion for HR, make sure you research GSK as a company and it's values, as if these don't appeal to you, chances are you aren't the right fit for GSK and the business areas you will be supporting and GSK isn't the right fit for you to deliver to your potential - it works both ways!

Interview Advice: Just be yourself, the genuine interest and passion is the most powerful attribute you have and will mean that if you're selected you will know you are the right 'fit' for GSK as it is senior HR colleagues who carry out the assessment centre, rather than an external third party, so you can be sure you're tested by the best.

Interview Advice: As above. The assessment centre or "final audition" is a new process this year which is designed so that you are acting as a business leader and making decisions about the business, you can't prepare for it but just be prepared to have a stretching and challenging yet enjoyable day. It will almost all be group work. For the video interview I found it helpful to prepare with post it notes and stick these around my laptop screen.

I think it is very important to focus what you can bring to the role and the programme and back this up with tangible examples.

Capgemini UK plc

General Management Graduate, Core Services at Capgemini UK plc

Application Advice: Apply early Be honest Know the company inside out - what are the full range of services we offer, who are our competitors, what were our financials last year (how is the company performing as a whole), what do you think this role involves day to day Focus on your achievements and give concrete examples - not just fluffy "we did this and then we achieved this" - great to show you worked as part of a team, but how did YOU actually add value to the team, what did YOU actually do Personality as as important as qualifications - people being our main asset and it being a genuinely people focused culture, it's as important that you're a good fit personality wise and vice versa as all the skills you might bring. Know our values well (modesty, honesty, fun etc.) as that's exactly the kind of person Capgemini are looking for Have an idea of your longer term career aspirations Ideally talk to someone who has done the role in the company (try use your network/get in touch with someone on LinkedIn) - get the most accurate view of what it really is like

Interview Advice: Much of the same as above In the group exercise, be careful to achieve a balance between speaking up and voicing your opinion and listening and taking on board others' opinion and not taking over - this is key Have questions for the interviewer too - try to think up challenging ones as well as just asking the generic qs. Know your presentation well - e.g. if a case study and you mention a technology in your solution, really know why you've chosen cloud for example. Don't just read from a load of slides, how you present is very important Be confident and if one area doesn't go well, don't fret, you can compensate for it by doing well in the other areas of the assessment centre - it's all taken into account Practice for the numerical and verbal, no matter how confident you are in your ability, you're in a pressurised environment on the day so every bit of practice helps Again, make sure your personality comes through - at the end of the day, you're going to need to be someone they'd like to work with!

GlaxoSmithKline

HR Associate, UK Pharma HRM Team at GlaxoSmithKline

Application Advice: This is a 'Future Leaders' Graduate Programme and this isn't just a title to make the graduate scheme seem more appealing, it is reflected in the fact you are given great exposure to senior colleagues and responsiblity on major projects from very early on, so make sure this is a challenge you are looking for. If GSK is a company you specifically want to work for, be sure to mention this and explain why as that interest and passion for the company and its Values will help you stand out. Similarly, make sure you do your research on GSK to gain an understanding of the Company and what about GSK appeals to you as this will demonstrate your interest in working for GSK.

Interview Advice: Be yourself, that way you will see if you are the right person for GSK and also if GSK is the right company for you - it is a two way process. Again, do your research on GSK and what about the company really appeals to you personally and why. Ensure you have examples of where you have demonstrated key competencies looked for at GSK to demonstrate that you have these attributes, otherwise you are missing a great opportunity to demonstrate your ability.

GlaxoSmithKline

HR Associate, at GlaxoSmithKline

Application Advice: Really research the company and the graduate programme before you apply. The more GSK-specific knowledge you can demonstrate in your application will really help you. Equally, it's worth doing this to make sure that GSK and HR are absolutely right for you. Remember to use the STAR techinque in your application questions and always talk about what YOU achieved, not everyone else! Also remember that the thought and design process behind your achievements is just as important to talk about as the finished product. Interviewers/assessors want to know that you recognise the challenges that come with creating an end product so talk about the highs and lows - this shows them that you can be very pragmatic and take a look at what to improve in the future.

Interview Advice: On the assessment day you will take part in a variety of activites. Some of which are: - Compentency interview; - Group exercise; - Role play; - Presentation. It sounds cliche - but BE YOURSELF! There is no point pretending to be someone else because you'll have to keep that alter ego up! :) Prepare to talk about yourself in a lot of detail, and get comfortable with blowing your own trumpet in an interview (not in an arrogant way of course!). Always remember that the assessors will be looking for someone that fits GSK's culture, whilst also demonstrating the key competencies for the role, so don't try and be 'dog-eat-dog'. It doesn't fit with how GSK are as a company. This one sounds very obvious but, when you are given a task, remember to read the instructions really carefully. You don't want to be answering the wrong question! Good luck - just give it your best shot :)

GlaxoSmithKline

HR Associate, Rotational Graduate Programme: Generalist/Embedded/Centres of Excellence at GlaxoSmithKline

Application Advice: Be honest. Always use the STAR technique for competency questions. Research the company - don't be scared/shy to show off the reading/research you have done.

Interview Advice: Don't be afraid to show how enthusiastic you are about the job. There is no need to be incredibly formal all day at the assessment centre. Remember that the assessors want to see how much you want the role, so show it off! Have fun! Easy to say in hindsight of course, but really do try to enjoy yourself. You will walk away from the interview/assessment day with a wealth of experience under your belt.

Petrofac

HR Graduate, Various at Petrofac

Application Advice: I would recommend conducting thorough research on the company. Petrofac have six values that are common to employees worldwide so candidates should be aware of the values. I would also recommend that candidates research the industry so they are aware of developments in the industry.

Interview Advice: The assessment day involved a number of different exercises including testing, competency interview and team building exercises. The day was challenging but the recruitment team and managers were friendly and approachable so it gave a really good idea of what it was like to work at Petrofac. There was also an opportunity to meet with the current graduates and to ask them questions about their experience.

Civil Service Fast Stream

HR Business Partner, at Civil Service Fast Stream

Application Advice: Ensure that you complete all of the practice tests that are made available, and if you are a bit rusty on working with percentages and fractions I would definitely do a little revision around these areas. Some of the tests that you have to complete in order to get through certain stages of the process require you to read and condense a great deal of information, you can't possibly read them in detail in the time allowed, therefore ensure you skim the information looking, and highlighting, any key points you think may be relevant. The assessment centre is a very long, busy, stressful day so ensure you get plenty of sleep the night before and that you take a few snacks to nibble on throughout the day.

Interview Advice: The interview questions are based around a couple of competencies, which you are aware of prior to interview. Therefore ensure that you have a number of examples ready, using the STAR principle. You will also be asked about why you are interested in joining the Civil Service Fast Stream and for background information about you, as the interviewer, has no prior information in respect of you and your application.

easyJet

HR Operational Analyst, HRSC at easyJet

Application Advice: Need to be very organised, need to be comfortable with excel and working with different systems. In addition the report requests are soemthing that cannot be planned in a day to day activity. This can be slightly overwhelming if you cannot cope/drowns with having more and more tasks added to your day on a hourly basis.

Interview Advice: Be yourself, this is cheesy but it is true. Show that your are both professional and have all the competencies that they are looking for as well as you have researched the company and passionate in working in the company you are apply to. In addition it is not only about your competencies but how you are as a person, your attitudes and behaviours throughout the interview. You need to be someone that would seem to fit in the company.

A comprehensive knowledge of HR isn't necessary for the grad scheme, and would actively encourage those without it to apply. Describe situations where you have resolved conflict, lead projects, and shown creativity.

Interview Advice: Be assertive without being domineering, embrace the role given in the role play, read annual report of JLR to understand what the company is proud of and the direction it is going in.

Fujitsu

HR Advisor, HR Systems at Fujitsu

Application Advice: In the early stages of your application, ensure you research the company thoroughly. It's also really important that you tell us in your initial application why this company's the one for you and, concurrently, why we should recruit you ahead of the competition. The application also requires you to sit online tests and it's essential that you've practiced these online beforehand. There are a few sites out there that allow you to take mock tests for free so do take advantage of them.

Interview Advice: Again and as with all interviews, preparation is key. Having a good raft of information about the company and the role for which you're applying will be a great asset, as will the ability to answer the questions asked of you with solid examples from your experiences in work and education. Essentially, you should think about the key skills and competencies that you've already acquired in advance of the interview so they're at the forefront of your mind, should you be asked a question that relates to them.
