Account Executive, Partnerships at Mindshare

Application Advice: You don't always need to have "media" experience. There is a load of training and support on that side of the agency provided by Mindshare. A lot of it is having 'relevant' experience which you can transfer skills into your new job role. Thoroughly explain how these skills are adaptable in your new role, and how they can enhance you in your new role.

Interview Advice: Be confident and honest in your experience, research the industry and the department. Advertising has so many roles and niche areas to work in, make sure you have some understanding of this. Don't be afraid to ask questions, it helps build a rapport with you and the interviewer and sometimes makes you more memorable. No one is born with the knowledge of experience in advertising, asking questions shows you're interested to learn more.

Application Advice: There is loads of material available online that you can do which will give you the edge over other candidates. There are also certificates that you can get online which will help as well. Make sure there are no mistakes on the CV. It may sound funny, but when you are applying to loads of companies looking for a job, making slight tweaks in the CV so that it fits best with the company, you will be surprised how many CV's have mistakes.

Interview Advice: Be confident and be yourself. Prepare yourself, relax and don't be scared of the interviewer. They are as worried about hiring as you're anxious on being hired. Be positive, this helps both parties to relax and be more comfortable. You will have a better chance of leaving a positive impression.

Application Advice: Definitely read up on the company and their activity, stay up to date with current trends in media and advertising and put lots of effort into your work, whilst being able to speak about it competently and confidently. Always go the extra mile and ask for more work and do things you might not necessarily be asked to do - the best way I've learnt is through doing some tasks that sit outside of my day-to-day remit.

Interview Advice: Be punctual and confident, it is a serious occasion but it's a lot more comfortable in the moment! Know what you want to talk about and show some interest in the company during the interview.
