Compass Group UK & Ireland

Operations Support Manager, ESS at Compass Group

Application Advice: You should have a "can-do", positive attitude, be flexible with working hours and really passionate about your work to excel in this company. You have to have a rough idea of how a catering company works, but it isn't a major issue if you've never worked in one before. Make your application interesting, you want to stand out from the rest of the graduates!

Interview Advice: The Graduate Scheme interview was lots of team based activities - one question was "If you could have breakfast with anyone at all, who would it be, where and why?" - a really random question for an interview but unlike other. You become relaxed and can show your true personality. You need to be able to work as team, don't talk over the top of everyone else, listen, but make sure you get your word in and be confident with it.

Thales

Business Management Graduate, Flight Avionics at Thales

Application Advice: Find your selling point that makes you different, Thales are keen to employ graduates that add diversity to the company. This year they took on 35 business graduates, and during meet and greet events we discovered that the majority of graduates had not studied business and there was a huge variety in the degree background. Think carefully about what skills your degree gave you that you would not necessarily consider to be useful 'in the world of business'. As part of my degree I had a large proportion of data analysis which i apply regularly within my job, and sets me aside from the rest of my year groups intake.

Asda

Manager, Organisation Design at Asda

Application Advice: Be yourself, be honest and overall be genuine. There is no point in moulding yourself into what you think a company like Asda is looking for because no one can pretend for long and you may end up realising that you and the company are not well matched !

Interview Advice: When you're asked "where do you see your career in 5 years?" Make sure you have a answer that you believe in. The leaders within Asda want to know that you fully back yourself and your abition to be successful. Whilst the path may change with experiences, always have at least a '5 year plan' that you are determined to deliver.

HR Apprentice, at E.ON

Application Advice: Make sure you're yourself and stand out - don't be shy or embarrassed - if you're quiet try to push yourself out of your comfort zone it shows you're adaptable.

Interview Advice: Take notes! I didn't know until after but you're allowed notes. I was asked about a time when I had a difficult experience with a customer - if this is your first job then I doubt they'll ask you that - maybe something along those lines. I'd make sure you have a variety of scenarios with you incase you get stuck - it's good to have plenty - try not to repeat yourself too much.
