The nature of these achievements can really be anything you want it to be, from a big success at uni to something altogether different like building a PC. They're trying to find out what kind of person you are, more than what you may have actually done. Also be prepared to have some ideas about the industry and where it might be going. Fujitsu

Gradate Project Manager, Managed Infrastructure Services at Fujitsu

Application Advice: Do not be discouraged by the fact that this job is IT related. Every project in the future will have an element of IT in it so Fujitsu provides a good learning curve so that technical details don't scare you in the future. I would advise for the interview process to be thoughtful of some of the key values that Fujitsu have as part of their mantra. If you can show a real demonstration of times when you have put a customer first for example, this will be well received.

Interview Advice: Explain a time where you took customer feedback and turned it into an improvement in how you delivered a service.

Interview Advice: Make sure you answer every question with an example if you can, this shows that what you are saying is true. At the beginning of my interview I was asked if I wanted to look at my CV for guidance, I said no. I think this really helped in my interview as it showed that what I was saying is true. Questions I was asked: What are your three biggest weaknesses? - When asked this question make sure that despite the fact you are talking about negative things turn it into something positive. Have you ever had to work with someone difficult? How did you handle this?

Atos

Graduate Technical Project Manager, Systems Integration at Atos

Application Advice: I believe that a successful application to Atos relies much more on your personal qualities than your academic achievements. While the company is looking for candidates that can apply themselves (usually backed up by university degree), they are looking for employees that are genuinely interested in pursuing their chosen career. Don't apply to Atos with the mindset that it's 'just a job'. If you show that you're keen to learn and develop, and can back up the role you're applying for with some sort of personal experience, I think that will give you the best chance of success with the application process. But hey, I'm not a hiring manager!

Interview Advice: Prepare for both group and individual exercises/presentations. When working in a group the goal isn't to show that you're better than everyone else, it's to show that you can work well with others. Application Advice: The online tests are similar to most that are out there, so you can practise these. Numerical, logical reasoning and I think, but might not have, verbal reasoning. First and foremost, for the telephone interviews: KNOW THE COMPANY. Too many people think Fujitsu make cameras. Research, think and take your time to answer the questions. Make sure they are relevant and detailed. In terms of the assessment centres, it is a case of be yourself, make sure you contribute - more so in the team exercise. The A.C is very fair and gives you every opportunity to succeed. You just have to take it.

Interview Advice: All interview questions are competency based….”can you tell me about a time”. In the telephone interview, they are looking for clear competencies, have your answers prepared using the STARL technique. Also, do your research: what do Fujitsu do, who are its customers, what is happening in the IT industry as a whole. In the assessment centre, you will have a competency based interview, a presentation exercise based on a case-study you are given and a group task. You are being assessed at all times, keep that and the competencies in mind at all times.

Atos

Graduate Project Manager, PMO at Atos

Application Advice: Ask as many questions as possible. Really find out if it relates to your degree and the type of work you want to do. I only realised that this was the correct path for me by asking questions about the job, training and general culture of the firm. Sometimes people do not want to ask about the culture but I find this to be one of the most important things about a role. I like to socialise and I was pleased to know that I would be going into a company with the type of culture I was looking for.

Interview Advice: This is a cliché but very true - always be yourself. You will never guess what an interviewer is looking for so just make sure you are relaxed yet professional and you can't really go wrong. Also, be very aware when doing group work - you want to be the person who is contributing enough to the group, yet recognising when others are not being heard. It always looks good to pay particular attention to these individuals and ask them directly for their contribution. This demonstrates that you aware of your surroundings and actively listening to what everyone has to say.

RM plc

Project Manager, Assessment & Data Services at RM plc

Application Advice: From my understanding - RM recruits graduates throughout the year. Though it is likely to advertise more roles at the end of each year (as most companies do for grad roles). So if you are planning on starting your grad job at an 'odd time' check the website and speak with HR and they might be flexible enough for you. Another thing to note is that a lot of graduate schemes have set start dates for their schemes. So for example they may interview in September this year but the start dates may be March next year. At RM it seems this is not the case. I had my interview 2 weeks before the start date for my role. So again (reiterating the above point) - don't limit yourself by not checking if there is flexibility regarding the application process.

Interview Advice: RM is split into a number of divisions, of which ADS is the one I work for. Do your research into what ADS does. Your interviewer will be your prospective manager (at least this is how it was in my case) - therefore try to impress them with the specific knowledge you have about the particular division you are going for (not just general information about RM as a whole - though this is important information to also know). You can get this information from the company website. The process I went through was as follows (though it may vary for you): --------------------- 1. Submit CV 2. Phone Interview 1 3. Online Tests (verbal - numerical) 4. Phone Interview 2 (I think this was an oddity in my case as maybe they were still not sure of my fit) 5. On-site Interview 1 (included competency based interview and presentation) 6. Onsite interview 2 (HR interview) 7. Job offer (2 days after the 2nd interview) ---------------------

Interview Advice: Three key pieces of advice: 1. Be yourself and let your personality show - attitude is king. 2. Be passionate about technology and what Microsoft stands for. 3. Be critical - Having an opinion matters in Microsoft and it is a real strength if you demonstrate critique in the correct way not only about Microsoft and the industry but also yourself and where you need to improve. Microsoft looks for high performing potential. Potential does not mean you are perfect from the word go - just need an attitude to learn and get stuck in.

WM Morrisons

Junior Project Manager, Projects at WM Morrisons

Application Advice: Understand what values Wm Morrisons has and what their approach is to their business. This is a core aspect to how we work on a daily basis, as we are more than just a supermarket selling fruit and vegetables. As well as understanding Wm Morrisons from an internal point of view, it is important to gain an understanding of everything from an external point of view. So for example, understanding what new technology, news stories, etc, might affect the way Wm Morrisons operate. Or knowing what are competitors currently doing and what their future plans are in order to gain better knowledge of the industry as a whole.

Interview Advice: A lot of the interview questions were based around the values of Wm Morrisons, therefore I cannot stress enough how important it is to read, understand and know these values. It is then a good idea to think about how you can link these values into your generic interview questions about showing examples on communication, leadership, teamwork, etc. There will be specific questions that relate to the graduate scheme you are applying for. So for example, as I am on the IT and Business Change graduate scheme, a question that I was asked was "What current technology interests you most in business and why?".

Interview Advice: Be yourself. I found the assessment centre to me more informal than others. They want to hire people with a clear personality rather than robots. It reflects who is on the scheme and makes everyday life at work fun rather than a drag from day to day.

Of course be prepared, honest and take accountability as recognising your strengths and weaknesses is just as important for your benefit as the companies.

Interview Advice: Relax and enjoy it, an interview is a two way thing although it maybe you applying, as a company they are still trying to sell themselves and attract talent. Prepare and have some knowledge of the industry, this just shows your interest for this business sector. Vodafone or indeed any company will not expect you to know the in's and out's however showing a genuine interest can never be overrated.
