Application Advice: Keep application concise as possible, do not waffle. Ensure CV begins with a brief personal profile of your experience so far, what you are looking to progress in + your experience is laid out in order of your latest experience - your earliest experience.

Interview Advice: Don't be afraid to show your personality. Use the STAR method to answer your questions, this may sound robotic but when you add your personal touch, your answers will flow very well. When asked as a graduate "why this role?", talk about what attracted you, not that you are looking for a permanent position.

Kent County Council

Graduate Evaluation Analyst Officer, Data Analytics at Kent County Council

Application Advice: You will be asked to do some two minute recorded answers to questions and once you see the questions you only have a minute to prepare what you are going to say. However, I would write down some ideas and experiences you can draw upon beforehand that are applicable to a few different questions as this helped me a lot. Also, take the whole of that minute you are given to think and do your best points first as you will likely run out of time

Interview Advice: It was a strengths based interview that asks you to reflect on certain skills you possess and when you employed them in your experiences up to this point. So reflecting upon when you have shown certain skills beforehand is important and the examples you use do not have to be academic or employment based they can be anything. For example, when asked about how I dealt with conflict within a team in the past I referred to some of my experiences playing in sports teams in my free time

Application Advice: Simply to answer the questions as legitimately and truthfully as possible.

Interview Advice: The main piece of interview advice would be to research the role in advance of the interview so that you understand the main responsibilities and requirements. I did this and so it felt that I was able to provide more in depth answers to the questions posed and it also helped me to transition into the role as I had an idea of the skills I would be learning.

Interview Advice: Consider why you want the job, why you think you might be up to the task. It's a role in which you might have to deal with dissatisfying results, despite everything seemingly going right - at the end of the day we're dealing with people, and situations change for people on a daily basis. Yes we have this 'work hard, play hard' atmosphere and working at Pro is full of perks, but you will still be expected to perform to the highest of your abilities. We have had many people 'jump' into recruitment just for the sake of having a job and earning some money. Do not do this, ensure you know what is going to be expected of you and decide if this is something which is doable.

If you have done any internships or full-time work, advertise this clearly and concisely, present your responsibilities and achievements while working there. It is important to show you are applying for roles in recruitment and you have done research in the industry, write a short intro showing your knowledge and your desire to join the industry. Put your CV on all of the job boards and LinkedIn.

Interview Advice: Study your CV initially, become comfortable in discussing your experience and going into some detail on certain aspects. The first interview is quite casual and you will get a lot of information on the company. Do some research to form some additional questions. In the second round, you will have to do a role play - It is great to research objection handling in sales for this. You will also need to prepare a 5-10 minute presentation - Fill it with detail and also personality as that is important for the business.

Hays

Assocaite Recruitment Consultant, Civil Engineering at Hays

Application Advice: If you have a friend to get referred through then definitely go that way or through a consultant. If not then apply direct but be prepared for a telephone interview quickly.

Interview Advice: Lots of stages so be prepared to commit to the process, the internal team are really informative and really quick moving, always be on top of your game and ready to answer any questions they throw at you. The assessment centre is quite fast paced and very reactive so just go with it and if something goes wrong don't let it affect the rest of the tasks. Director interviews always seem the most daunting but now I work for them it's silly to think why I was nervous, they are all sociable people so just be yourself and keep the conversation flowing.

Application Advice: Ensure that you have an up to date CV, your reasons for leaving your previous employer are on there with the correct dates. Make sure that the CV outlines everything you have done - don't miss anything off. Also be sure that it looks good and is readable to the employers.

Interview Advice: Be yourself! The interview process is tough - there are 4 stages to get through but each motivated me to want to work for Hays even more. You need to demonstrate your potential to work in Hays not necessarily where you have previous recruitment experience. They also want to see your personality shine through as well as your commerciality.

Reed Global

Senior Consultant, Engineering at Reed Global

Application Advice: My main piece of advice would be to write a strong cover letter to include in your application. This is part of the online application process so I would recommend having one written ahead of completing the online application so that you have already proof-read and edited the content to copy and paste into the application. The cover letter should be targeted, relevant to REED, and include reasons WHY you're applying and what makes it an exciting opportunity for you. This is an opportunity to include a bit of personality, as well as demonstrate your interest in the role. A regurgitated cover letter that's really a re-written version of a CV won't stand out, but a personalised letter that includes your aspirations and career goals will.

Interview Advice: "Fail to prepare, prepare to fail" could not be more accurate here, and has been my mantra since my first ever interview when I was 17. My recommendations would be to; research (with time to spare, don't cram 10 minutes before the interview); prepare answers to standard competency questions; also prepare questions you want to ask; have all of this written down in front of you ready for the interview in a clear document that you can easily read, so when the time comes to answer questions or ask questions, you have something easily accessible to reference. James Reed's "Why You?" book is a fantastic resource for interview preparation and I would highly recommend leafing through this ahead of your interview too.

Reed Global

Recruitment Consultant, Business Support at Reed Global

Application Advice: Be sure to emphasise skills that are applicable to the job, particularly communication and sales as you are likely to be in a sales driven environment. Also, do your research on Reed as a company and the recruitment industry as it will show the Graduate Team at Reed you are serious about your application and not just applying as it is a Graduate scheme.

Interview Advice: There are a number of interview stages, two on the phone and one which is face to face. On the initial telephone interview, be clear and confident and make sure you prepare beforehand! The second telephone interview will likely be a test so ensure you completely understand the information and think about it analytically - don't be afraid to think outside the box! The final face to face interview will be with a senior member of staff in the business and this can seem quite daunting. However, don't be afraid of this stage as they are only trying to get an understanding of what you are like as a person and a candidate to see if you will do well in the business.

Interview Advice: I would say to be fully prepared and ready to answer all the questions that are asked to you and revise the company before you walk into the interview room because questions about the company may be asked, also questions regarding the gas industry as a whole may also be asked, so you need to have your knowledge up to scratch. Also make yourself presentable and look smart so that you look appealing so whoever is interviewing you wants to hire you as their employee.

Application Advice: Be sure of yourself. When describing your traits make it obvious that you believe they are true and back yourself 100%, it's not worth erring on the side of caution to seem more modest. The application form can be lengthy but it is worth it as what you put in there will really set you apart from other people and get you to that interview. The application is the first impression of you that they get so make it a good one, take your time with the process and reap the rewards.

Interview Advice: Be yourself and do your research so that you can be confident you know what you're saying. This firm is very people orientated and values colleagues and clients very well so if you can display that you work very well with people this should reflect quite positively. Show that you have an eagerness to learn and progress because the firm looks for people who they can invest in and progress through their careers.
