Application Advice: The two key things are 1) having a clear idea of what you bring to the table and why you'd want to work for us and 2) practice case studies (including mental arithmetic). Good preparation shows that you're serious about applying and helps you perform better in interview.

Interview Advice: The first round has three parts: 1) A relaxed CV chat where it's best to just be yourself and help us get to know you better, your motivations for applying, and what you've done up to this point. 2) A math test where you should be ready for simple data manipulation (GMAT practice questions are good for this). 3) A case study where the best thing you can do is make sure you plan out your approach before diving in. A good, detailed, well thought through plan is very impressive and, should you not get to the end, gives us the chance to see where you were going and give you credit for it. It can also help to stop you rushing and allow you to catch important nuances you may otherwise have missed.

Application Advice: The firm's primary interest is in how you think and communicate, not what you know. That said, read up on the commentaries on our website to get a feel for the language used and focus areas. Generally a very modest and down to earth bunch. Come along to as many events as you can and speak to as many employees as you can. Everyone will be happy to help. For undergraduate hires, think whether you want to be a generalist or specialise early. Nature of the firm means that everyone is a generalist for the first few years, and can continue as a generalist beyond that. Think about why you might fit with a small firm and whether you are keen to be involved in firm-building activities.

Interview Advice: Firm places a lot of emphasis on being humble - it's great to be confident but don't be afraid of saying you don't know something. Polish up on maths and basic business terms - there's no need to dive in to cases with a thorough framework but being able to talk around the issues is obviously essential. Think all questions / cases through from first principles and show how your thinking develops. Think about a few current business challenges that interest you (either company- or industry-specific), come prepared with something to say on them. Expect fit questions to be very probing and answer them honestly. The honest answer will be received better than the one that sounds best.

Arcadis

Application Advice: Be open minded - EC Harris can provide you with cross-sector and cross-specialism experience if you want to expand your career horizon. This encourages you to not only to find your niche and play to your strengths but understand where you would like to learn more and where this could take you; enabling graduates to develop a wider knowledge base which in the long term will be invaluable in your career.

Interview Advice: Research wider built environment issues - what do Clients really want from built asset consultants? What are the hot topics in your specialism or the built environment today? Where can you see the built environment heading? What impact does this have on the Consultancy role? You need to be able to think outside the box and put yourself in our Clients' shoes.

Accenture

Graduate Analyst, at Accenture

Application Advice: In the interview/assessment stage, simply be yourself. Do your research, find out about the company, and really -want- the role. The more I realized what Accenture did, the more I wanted to be a part of the company. Be prepared to do something you don't like and then have the initiative to move into something that you do. I have a background in history and human rights, worked for NATO, and love reading about sustainability, the evolution of rights, and economic inequality. And here, I've ended up in banking. Though this isn't a role I want to stay in for long, I also know that the skills I gain in this role could very well come in handy down the road. So I'd advise everyone to show real flexibilty and open-mindedness regarding the roles offered.

Inventory Analyst, Analyst Consultant Group (ACG) at Accenture

Application Advice: Make sure you view your application from the perspective of the person that will be reviewing it. Before you start your application, look through the corporate website and write down our client values. What sets Accenture apart? - what do we motivate ourselves to do daily? Once you have done this, you will have a much better view of what your application needs to draw from you with regards to your strengths and areas for improvement.

Interview Advice: Always, Always, ALWAYS, have a question to ask them at the end of the interview. Given that you are 99.9% likely to be asked whether you have any, it would seem simply foolish not to have something prepared in advance. You could ask about recent clients, a particular piece of work that was completed, or about the consulting industry in general.

Make sure you make the effort to demonstrate some interest in technology, even if you aren't a technical person (most of us aren't when we join) at least read up on a few articles about trends in technology and how integral it is to business etc. Although not all our work is technology based, much of it is and most people end up doing technology projects at some point so it's important you can demonstrate you understand, and will enjoy this.

Interview Advice: Be yourself. We hire strongly on personality fit so don't be afraid to show a bit of personality. Everyone at Accenture tends to be quite outgoing and gets stuck in to all the extra curricular activities we have going on. So highlight these qualities in yourself.
